Cannon is a brand new exhibitor and will be bringing to SED 2008 a range of machines from China's largest construction machinery manufacturer ¨C XCMG.
Cannon's core business is the sale of commercial vehicles, and in recent years the company has been exploring the possibility of branching out into the sale of plant machinery. Cannon's managing director, William Cannon, first travelled to China in 2003 and had talks with a number of construction machinery manufacturers.
Cannon's aim was to import construction machines and assemble them in-house in the company's Northern Ireland factory. Managing director, William Cannon said, "We wanted to supply our customers with competitively priced machines, which would also provide quality and reliability. XCMG fitted the bill- they are China's largest construction machinery manufacturer and all machines come fitted with Cummins Tier III engines, ZF or Meritor axles and ZF transmission."
Cannon is of the opinion that operators are paying through the nose for the big branded machines, which are often manufactured in the same factories as Chinese-branded machines. He believed it was time for a strong Chinese brand to challenge the incumbents in the construction machinery market in the UK and Ireland.
Cannon's plan came to fruition and the company took delivery of a number of XCMG machines in the second half of 2007. Cannon concluded, "We will be effectively launching the Cannon XCMG range at this year's SED and will have more machines to come in time for the exhibition. The SED exhibition was a natural choice for us to launch the new products, because of the level of esteem with which it is regarded within the industry. The sheer numbers of visitors that come to the event each year was enough to convince us that the exhibition would be an excellent way to kick off our assault on the market. It will also allow visitors to compare and contrast our machines with the big names that will also be present at the exhibition."
The machines that Cannon will be bringing to SED include a selection of wheel loaders ranging from 6tonne up to 30t, as well as a 21t motor grader and a 25tonne and 50 tonne crawler crane.
